As a native Southern Californian, I never experienced the joy of fall: the crisp, cool air, the red-orange foliage, the transition from shorts and sandals to pants and boots. In Southern California, summer temperatures dominate every season, so experiencing autumn in New York City has been a nice change of pace during these past three years.
Now, when I think of fall in the City, I also think of coffee.
Coffee may be a year-round indulgence for most, but to me, nothing says fall like a scalding, foamy latte.
This fall, grab an inspiring book or a good friend, and try out the best coffee shops in Lower Manhattan!
Best Coffee Shops in Lower Manhattan: 12 Corners
Named the best coffee shop in New York City by Business Insider, 12 Corners has recently been the talk of the town. This coffee shop’s specialty is the pumpkin pie latte, which is reason enough to visit!
Best Coffee Shops in Lower Manhattan: The Roost
The Roost is the most unconventional coffee shop on this list. Not only can you get your caffeine fix at The Roost, but also you can quench your thirsts for craft beer and bourbon! You’ll get a special kick out of any drink here.
Best Coffee Shops in Lower Manhattan: Third Rail
As the best coffee shop in the area, Third Rail attracts all the NYU students. This coffee shop has become the popular place to hang out, so if you can’t snag a table, take your coffee for a stroll in nearby Washington Square Park!
Best Coffee Shops in Lower Manhattan: Kaffe 1668
This Swedish-influenced coffee shop goes against the grain, putting out products that it likes, not necessarily ones that the public wants. To get a taste of Swedish coffee and the all important fika, give this place a try.
Best Coffee Shops in Lower Manhattan: El Rey Coffee Bar & Luncheonette
El Rey Coffee Bar & Luncheonette is your modern hole in the wall, influenced by a Southern Californian, Mexican-American chef. Enjoy a coffee during any and all hours of the day, but make sure to stay for the delicious pastries and food, too!
Best Coffee Shops in Lower Manhattan: Everyman Espresso
Everyman Espresso is more than just a local coffee shop; it is the local coffee shop. Warm, welcoming, innovative, and delicious would be the best words to describe this cozy spot. I will definitely be spending some more time here this fall – and you should, too!
Best Coffee Shops in Lower Manhattan: Abraço
New York City gets a taste of Southern European coffee culture with this one! Abraço is influenced by Spanish and Italian coffee shops, and since I trust the tastes of both countries, this place is always a winner in my eyes.
Best Coffee Shops in Lower Manhattan: Joe
Joe might be the best name for a coffee shop on this list – you just can’t confuse it. Joe has been a New York City staple since 2003, and guys, that won’t be changing any time soon. Stop by and try one of Joe’s very own roasts!
There you have it! Those are the 8 best coffee shops in Lower Manhattan, according to Mauricio. Have you tried any of them? Which of your favorite NYC coffee shops should’ve made the list?
