Attention! All Los Angeles locals and travelers alike, it’s with great pleasure that I’m sharing where you will find the best breakfast in all of LA. This legendary place is a food stall by the glorious name of Egg Slut. Located in the Grand Central Market in Downtown Los Angeles, you’ll come for the delicious egg slutiness, yet you’ll stay to further explore the Market and discover what other offerings the various food stalls and shops have in store for you.
Egg Slut is one of the best kept secrets in Los Angeles, no doubt about it. Two dudes with a passion for eggs opened this place up in 2011, and let me tell ya, thousands of people, including me, are very happy they did so.
First off, I want to say that a lot of people try to steer clear of Downtown Los Angeles because it’s “dangerous” or “dirty”, which, undoubtedly, used to be true. Now, these things certainly don’t change overnight, but a lot of work has been put into the area to clean it up and make it safer for everyone; nowadays, it’s becoming a place for younger, hipster-like people to hang out and also place where a lot of hidden treasures exist, such as, well, Egg Slut! When we explored the area a few days ago, Mauricio and I actually found a lot of Downtown’s characteristics to be reminiscent of New York City’s, and most of us would agree that that’s a great thing. Who doesn’t love New York? So then can I say, ‘Who doesn’t love Downtown LA?’? Maybe not just yet, but we’re getting there, people!
So now that I’ve convinced you that Downtown LA is the hip, new place to hang out, you’re ready to hit the Grand Central Market where you will have the greatest breakfast you’ve ever had for $6 to $9 (depending on what you choose).
I haven’t had everything on the menu at Egg Slut, however, I am positive that I’ve had the best thing: the Fairfax breakfast sandwich. Imagine this: soft scrambled eggs, chives, a slice of melted cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, and sriracha mayo, all atop a warm, toasted brioche bun, all for $7, and then add on bacon and avocado. Literally, this sandwich was the sluttiest, most delicious egg creation I’ve ever tasted.
Sorry for the upcoming (maybe excessive) food porn, but I feel that it’s what you must do when you eat slutty sandwiches for breakfast. Am I right, or what? So without further ado, I give you Egg Slut food porn!
Phew, now that that’s out of my system, we can continue talking about Egg Slut…
The second breakfast sandwich you see pictured above is your standard Bacon, Egg, & Cheese sandwich for $6, plus avocado, obviously. Though this sandwich is delicious, I fully support leaving your comfort zone just a bit, and trying new or different things. I don’t like mayo at all, like not one bit, but I got the Fairfax anyway, and oh my goodness, I was rewarded.
And with all of this Egg Slut goodness, I feel I must also share the bad stuff too. Actually there’s just one bad thing, but I suppose that you could also see it as a good thing, depending on how busy you are, and how much of an optimist or pessimist you may be. The line at Egg Slut is alarmingly long at pretty much all times throughout the day. This can be bad if you’re impatient or have somewhere you need to be, but this also is a sign that you’re in for something really great, and if you have someone pleasant in line with you, then some nice conversation and people watching will have you at the front of the line in no time! I promise it’s worth the wait, guys. It shouldn’t be more than 20 minutes. And also, someone comes through the line to take your order before you even reach the front, to make everything quicker and more efficient! So don’t let the long line discourage you.
I hope that you all will take this suggestion into consideration and I hope that you all enjoy both Egg Slut and the Grand Central Market during your next visit to Los Angeles!
